NEW CASTLE - Area residents looking for a way to keep cool this summer are in luck. A new ice cream shop, 38 Dairy, recently opened on Broad Street, just east of New Castle.
Owner and Spiceland native Brent Muse has grown up in the restaurant business and is bringing some of his knowledge to the new store.
“I’ve watched some of the ice cream places over the years and I thought it would be a good investment,” Muse said.
Muse thought the edge of town really needed something considering there used to be an ice cream shop years ago in the exact location where 38 Dairy is now.
“People can walk or ride their bikes here in the middle of the summer and I really believe this is going to be good for this side of town,” he said.
According to Muse, he is not the first person to own an ice cream shop at his present location.
“I’m actually the third ice cream shop to set up here and I used to bring my children here when they were little,” he noted.
However, the 38 Dairy menu is not limited to just ice cream. Muse’s father owned a drive-in called K & J when he was younger. He took the recipes for his coney
dogs and hand-cut, grilled tenderloins from his dad.
The shop features a walk-up ordering window and some tables are available nearby for patrons to enjoy their treats.
38 Dairy is located at 27th and Broad streets and is open from 11-9 every day. Muse said extended weekend hours will likely be coming soon.
